Goodwood Supercar Sunday 2018

5/6/2018

On Sunday a few of us attended this event.  I have been before and was amazed how many supercars attended.
We had to meet up very early at Thurrock services for the drive down to Goodwood.  We had to be there by 8.30am so we met up at 7.00am to get there earlier enough.  As I was filling up in the services, I got a call from Bryn and Steve who was waiting in the carpark so we decided to meet at the exit and leave straight away.

We had a great drive down in the sunshine with the roof off,  and arrived at 8.20am after driving 78miles , we then had to queue to get in which took 15min, as it was so busy.

We were guided onto the Goodwood Race track, and drove through the Tunnel giving the car a good blast, then we joined the line up along the starting grid.  It took 10 mins driving through all the parked super-cars to find a parking spot.  Crowds of spectators lined the route and were taking photos of us. Kids were saying to the dads cor its a Tvr, Its amazing that they were very interested in our cars which cost a fraction of most of the cars on show.

We then spent 3 hours walking around some of the most expensive cars ever made.  After seeing about 30 Aventadors and 50 Ferraris with a few Porsche Gt3's Gt2's, Aston Martins inc a Zagato convertable v rare, Racing DB11, DB9, Vantage Gte, Bugatti Chiron Veyrons, lots of Mclarens inc a few P1s and several 720s.  there was also a rare Mclaren Senna, finished in Carbon Fibre bodywork,  only 20 of these were made at £300k each.

Amongst the newish supercars were a mixture of classic supercars such as Ferrari Daytonas, Gto's Lamborghini Diablo, Espada Murcialago etc,,even a Blower Bentley,  and a few Tvrs

Great day out, in beautiful weather and some lovely cars..

see some photos in Events Gallery..

Thrill in the Hills 24-28 May 2018

29/5/2018

Just got back from the Peak District after a glorious weekend driving round the best roads in the uk.

5 Tvrs travelled up from Essex on Thursday (24th may). Jo & Gerry, Phil, Graham & Julie, Paul & Sandra and Me and Sue. plus Dave & Theresa in their Merc. We met up with Ray & Lorraine and Melvin & Hillary at the hotel in Sheffield. They had just spent 10 days touring Scotland in their Tvrs. Fred Joined us Friday evening.

Friday the weather changed from hot sunshine to cold and wet, so we decided to go to the Crich Tramway Museum.  After arriving we travelled on a 1937 Tram then  went round the workshops and museum. quite fascinating even though im not into trams. worth a visit.. when we left it started to get misty and as we drove across the peaks it was like a victorian london fog and I couldn’t see beyond a our bonnet, we drove at 25mph in case we drove off the road into the valley below.

Saturday was the Thrillls in Hills runout. we were worried about the weather but sat morning was dry and warm and on the way the sun came out and it was another glorious day. we arr at the meeting point, Haddam Station carpark, where the were about 100 other Tvrs, good turnout, we paid our membership fee of £3 which went towards the organising, and rec 2 maps for the runs and a nice sticker for the car.
At 10.30 we all started our cars and queued up to leave for the morning run.. what a sight and the sound was deafening “ probably from the car in front which looked like a racing Tvr v8S with a straight through exhaust…

We left the carpark in large convoy of 118 cars, the locals were amazed and taking photos on their phones as we roared pass.  I used my Gopro and got some good footage.
We drove about 50miles going through small villages and along some scenic roads in the hills of the peak district.  The route passed through Heathersage Bamford passing Ladybower Reservoir, what a view over it, then onto Hope, Castleton, then stopped to regroup with over 100 tvrs lined up along the road, we left and went along Winmats pass, then to Buxton ( where the spa water comes from) and ending up at The Knights Table pub where we all stopped for lunch.  They packed us all into the carpark with no hope of getting out before the afternoon run.

After lunch Me and Phil were the only ones wanting to do the afternoon run, Sue decided to grab a lift back with Fred in his nice mk3 Tuscan.  she has now decided she wants me to get one...

So off we all went again minus a few Mid Essex members who went back to Hotel.
I thought the afternoon run was better than the morning, with lots of twisty turns and nearly vertical hills, it was like driving on the mountain roads in Italy. We went through Longnor, Crowdecote Newhaven, Matlock Bath and Bakewell ( very touristy ) and ended up in a field at Monsal Head,, what a view.   After a nice pint sitting outside the pub we bumped into Barry (another Mid Essex member ) and after a long chat we then headed back to the hotel.

Sunday the weather was Hot and Sunny so we decided to do a drive that Dave had organised. Phil had printed the Directions and we headed off,  we drove along Snake Pass lovely scenic winding road then onto Glossop and then onto the Cat and Fiddle road, amazing stretch of road famous with Bikers, they put speed cameras on it because of the bad accidents bikers were having. We stopped for lunch at the Peak View Tea Rooms, overlooking the peaks.  After lunch we continued to Winatts Pass, another long winding road through the best scenery, the route took us all round the best roads and then back to Sheffield for our Hotel.

Sunday night we all decided to visit the local curry house where we near enough filled the restaurant with 16 of us turning up.

Monday we headed back with quite a few of us going on to other places.  Me and Sue went to visit her mums cousin in Belper, they were surprised to see us arriving in the Tvr,  we hadn’t seen them since 1992. Sues mum lived there from a child till she moved to London when she was 20 years old.

I Wish to say, Thanks to Jo for organising another great event , Dave for organising Sundays run, Phil for printing out the maps, and everyone else for coming including Graham and Julie who came with us from Tvrcc Berks region, without the members there wouldn’t be events like these. And of course thanks to the Nomads Tvrcc Peak who organised another brilliant weekend.

Bye for now
Alex

France 7-10 Sept 2017

13/9/2017

Just got back from france on Sunday...  All had a great time, weather was hit and miss but overall it was ok.  Have added pics to the Events Gallery, if anyone wants to add some, please send them to me on an Email.  The itinary this year was :-
Thursday-  drove down from calais stopping at Bethune for Lunch.
Friday- we had our Drive out Visiting La Ferte Milan, where there is a large castle above the picturesque town. visited the water wheel and walked along a lovely river.
We then Drove to Chateau Thierry which has a large Chateau above the Town. we had lunch there where the young waitress caused mayhem by mixing up our order and then bringing mains whilst we were eating our starters...after the meal we left and I accidently left my wallet on the table, I quickly returned 5mins later and it was gone and nobody knew anything about it. shame it spoilt a good day... we then drove to Longpont Abbey which was in serious need of repair. with no roof or windows..

Saturday morning- we visited the Market at Noyon and the weather was nice and sunny. we then decided to have lunch in a nice little restuarant. it was quite small so we sat outside under cover. then the rain came down torrential, the road outside looked like a river.. an hour later it stopped and the sun came out. what good timing.  We then drove to the American War Grave site at Bony near St Quentin.
It was very surrean and peaceful, we walked around the visiter centre where they had photos and writings about the first world war, then we walked around the hundreds of graves. we all felt it was such a waste of life.
That night everyone came to our Mobile home for a last drink before the drive home Sunday.  Good job I booked 3 bed homes as 12 people was quite cosy.
Sunday morning we packed up and met in the main carpark and then drove to Arras for lunch. We were all low on fuel so decided to drive to the nearest garage, but it when we got there it was derelict.. we then found another about 9km away so headed there thank god it was open as i was on empty.
Arras was a large town with a big Square in the middle, we all parked up and had a lovely lunch in a nearby pizza restuarant.  time was getting on so back on the motorway we headed for Calais. 3 cars went on the Eurotunnel  and 3 of us went on the ferry. we got to the ferry terminal an hour before our booking in time but had to queue for 50mins trying to get through immigration. we managed to get on the next ferry and had a lovely dinner in the restuarant. then the announcer said that because of bad weather we couldnt go into the port at dover. so it circled for an hour before going into dock. The crossing had taken 3 hours. We then drove home from dover in the high winds and pouring rain...

Overall we all had a great time, and I wish to thank everyone for coming, and It was very thoughtful of you all for helping me out in my little crisis...

Alex n Sue

Tvrcc Peak District Thrills in the Hills

30/5/2017

We all had a great weekend in the peak district.
It was not without some hiccups.  First Jo and Gerry were late because they had a fuel leak on the Tamora, Then Kevin couldnt restart his car after filling up at Birchanger services, then Phil had a puncture on the M11 which shred his tyre, Jodie still has half the tyre as a momento. Also on the way home we stopped at Cambridge services and Gerry pulled up behind me with his Gear lever in his hand, it had come adrift miles back and he had stayed in 5th gear until the services. I have since heard he managed to temp fix it and made his way home. Other than that we all had a great time. The weather was Hot and sunny for 4 days, it only rained on the way home.

On Friday we visited the Standedge Tunnel. Its the longest Canal tunnel in the uk (5029m) and allowed barges to go under the Penines. it was opened in 1811 and 2 men would lay on their backs and walked along the tunnels on barges loaded with 40 tons of produce.

we went on an electric barge which went into the tunnel and travelled for about 30mins with a guide explaining the construction and use.

On Saturday we met up with over 100 Tvrs and drove around the Peak District National Park which was amazing, the views couldn't be more breathtaking. and with the added fun of following over a 100 Tvrs with the v8 music that goes with it.

Sunday we decided to visit Holmfirth which was only 12 miles away, this is the town where they made Last of the summer wine.  we stood outside Sid's cafe and stood on the steps of Nora Batty's house.

Monday was the first Rain we had and drove back through mist and rain till we got to Sheffield then it brightened up.

Thanks to all for a great weekend with the great banter and laughs...

You can see some photos on the Events Gallery.

April Meet 9-4-17

12/4/2017

April's meet was a quiet affair because Jo, Gerry, Ben and Ellie were on holiday in sunny Blackpool. That left Leo and me to arrange the meet. Leo done a sterling job selling 61 strips of raffle tickets for the Air Ambulance. not too many complaints about his selling techniques.  only a few photos as i forgot my camera and relied on an iphone with lack of spare memory.  Thanks to all those that turned up.. see you all next month...Alex DRO

Gallery France pics

18/9/2016

Added pics from our sept France trip.  thanks to Steve, Tony (rev) and Mel for donating photos to a good cause.   In case you didnt know, we had a few problems on our trip.
1   Bryn's Clutch broke getting off Shuttle in Calais. still waiting for car to return to uk.
2. Pauls Vulcan wouldnt start friday morning found ECU had broke, car transported to garage in Soissons still waiting car to return to Straight6.
3. Tony (rev) exhaust fell off , car still sounded the same (loud).
4  Sunday my car wouldnt start, no power from battery, so decided to clean battery terminals when i screwed them back on Alarm went off, 120db at 8.00am sunday morning. the germans opposite me weren't amused.  this happened 3 times haha, phoned breakdown service and they took car to garage in Soissons parked it next to pauls and said nothing open on sunday so had to stay a night in hotel till monday. They fitted a new battery  car started first time, alarm reset. then they gave me a bill for 250euros, this was 65euros for diagnosing fault ( i told them it was battery) 185euros for a £60 battery. felt a bit ripped off but at least i drove home ok. others are still waiting for their cars and could take 3-4 weeks. Seems theres a big backlog of uk cars waiting to be brought back from France, other than that we had a great time with good runouts and will definately revisit La Croix du Vieux Pont next year.

France September 2016

23/2/2016

September 8th – 11th
Our Annual venture to France .  If anybody wants to attend please email me asap
We have decided to go to a different site this year as we run out of places to visit near St Valery.
This year we are staying at La Croix Du Vieux Pont.  Its located about 140miles from Calais;
As usual we shall have some interesting runouts on Friday and Saturday. Sunday we will have a nice meander back to Calais using the country lanes rather than motorways.
The evenings we sit around having interesting banter and drinking the local plonk or beer.
Cost is approx £158 for a 3 night stay per couple. Plus your return to Calais on the Shuttle or join me and Sue on the ferry
So far we have 5 couples going but the more the merrier. 2014 we had 11 cars.
We now have 9 Cars going, so should be a great time had by all...
